From December 2018-March 2019 I participated in a selective graduate class at Texas State University covering the SXSW Interactive Festival, aptly titled SXTXState.
For this class, each of the five students was assigned different tasks from UX/UI to social media. Based on my previous experience, I was assigned to Twitter. Each of us was also assigned three “tracks” from the festival to cover as part of our assignment.
Beginning in December, we met with Hugh Forrest from SXSW to talk about the project and then immediately got to work. There were logos to be designed, blog changes to be made, panelists to contact, and content calendars to be scheduled.
Leading up to the festival, each of us wrote six “previews” – interviews with speakers about their panels, what we could expect, and just a little more about them as people. As the keeper of the Twitter account, I pushed these stories out on social after being posted. During the festival, we were to attend at least five days of programming, utilize our Instagram Stories, and live Tweet during the panels we attended. At the end of each day, we would compose “wrap-ups” consisting of our Instagram Story of the day and a quick blurb about the experience. It was my job to retweet pertinent information to the @sxtxstate Twitter account as well as retweet my fellow team members during the festival.
During the festival, we were also tasked with getting interviews with at least one person per day. This interview could be with anyone from festival attendees to speakers.
Finally, after our week was up we wrote a recap of our experience.
All in all, I created 19 pieces of web content for this project, of which I am immensely proud. This content can be viewed from my author page at sxtxstate.com.
