I have a bit of a wild theory but… hear me out here.

11 1/2 years after Star Trek (2009), I have come to a realization.

Kirk in the kelvin timeline was supposed to be Sam, not Jim.

But how can that be, you ask? The kelvin timeline begins with Jim’s birth? Well, it’s easy really.

We know in TOS that Jim has an older brother named Sam. He’s clearly an only child in the kelvin timeline.

In the midst of battle, with daddy Kirk literally seconds from dying, they had to brainstorm a name for their kid fast. So they named him after both their fathers. Reasonably, this seems like a “first kid” thing to do, but then again, Kerry Earnhardt was born before dale jr so… 🤷🏼‍♀️

According to Star Trek literature, which I’m not sure is canon, Sam was actually born in 2229 so, I can’t really explain that. Also that weird monument in riverside, Iowa dedicated as the future birthplace of Jim Kirk says he was born in 2228 so… idk. Memory alpha does confirm that he was born in 2233 though so, again, 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Sam was evidently originally scripted in the kelvin timeline but ultimately cut. Therefore, I accept my conclusion.

Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

And I apologize for formatting issues as I’m on my phone and it’s the middle of the night. I’ll fix those later.
